About Us

Ava’s Allies, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Charity, is the dream child of its 17 year-old President, Ava Thomas. After being diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2018 and suffering the effects of chronic Lyme which left her unable to attend school many days and even make it out of bed in 5th grade, Ava was inspired to help other kids with illness that felt helpless and isolated like she did during her illnesses.

Ava started volunteering at her local Ronald McDonald House and held numerous fundraisers, including upcycling her old furniture and auctioning it off to raise money and even building props for The Ronald McDonald House parade float. However, it wasn’t until after watching the movie “ The Heart of Christmas” based on the true story the Locke family, who are devastated when they learned that their 2-year-old son, Dax, has leukemia that her true vision became realized. Before the credits even rolled, Ava told her family that she wanted to create a charity to help sick kids and their families and Ava's Allies quickly became a reality.

Ava’s Allies passionately advocates for better vision screenings in schools so that other kids can have an easier educational journey than she did and so vision issues can be caught earlier. Ava’s Allies has also partnered globally with World Vision to provide food and other basic needs for children living in poverty in Africa and has worked locally with Jersey Cares to donate school supplies and Halloween costumes to kids in need locally.
